The Help Yourself Recover Project is a charitable non-profit organization that services homeless veterans and military families in the community who are experiencing mental health, substance abuse, unemployment, hunger, and homelessness. The services include mental health counseling, substance abuse counseling, housing, Vocational Rehab, GED, Self help groups (AA, CA, etc.), DBT, CBT, Self Care, and a number of recreational classes.
Help Yourself Recover Project was formed by John Bowen whose father served in Vietnam and grandfather in World War II. He has become a beacon of light to the communities that need help in our society. A former cocaine addict and felon Mr. Bowen spent over 30 years using drugs in and out of prison. After his last stint in jail in 2018 Mr. Bowen changed his life. He started by graduating from Copa Health Peer Support Program in June 2020. He then went on to graduate from Rio Salado College with a certification for chemical dependency/substance abuse counseling in November 2020. Mr. Bowen also received his Forensic Peer Support Specialist certification from Hope Lives (Feb. 2021) He also has received 16 certifications in the field including CPR and Assist. Behavioral Health Technician (Beacon College 2023) Mr. Bowen has 2 Bachelors degrees from the University of Wisconsin. (1988)
