Help Yourself Recovery Project was founded in 2020 by John Bowen, whose family has a proud legacy of military service. John’s father served in Vietnam, and his grandfather bravely fought in World War II. In addition, five members of his immediate family have chosen careers in military service. Inspired by their sacrifice and dedication, John established the organization to honor their service by supporting veterans and military families facing challenges such as homelessness, hunger, substance abuse, mental health struggles, and the lasting impacts of PTSD.
